Lonely Island (hey, remember them?) released a new song and it’s all about Mark McGwire and Jose Canseco doing steroids.

The mark of a truly entertaining act is when they can go away for a while, allow us to forget about them, and then resurface without having to reintroduce themselves. That’s the plane Lonely Island exists on — the comedy trio headed by Andy Samberg. They peaked a few years ago when Samberg and the gang were fresh off their stint on Saturday Night Live and the parody songs they released were what the zeitgeist needed.

Then they faded away, popping back up a year ago with the film Pop Star: Never Stop Never Stopping, which was basically a very on-brand inside joke disguised as a theatrical film. Some deemed it too kitschy and a film they maybe should have made when they were red hot in the earlier part of the decade, but they made it and then retreated.

Now Lonely Island has once again popped back up, this time with one of their textbook parody songs. While not an official release, the trio got the band back together to warm up the crowd at Clusterfest and took aim at vintage Bay Area sports stars.

The song, titled ‘Bash Brothers’ takes shots at Mark McGwire and Jose Canseco for their rampant steroid use. There’s also a sprinkling of Joe Montana in there for good measure.

Warning: The lyrics are very NSFW but just plug in your headphones and thank us later.

We don’t always get nice things in the world, so something like this is always welcomed. There’s no political tinge to it and you don’t need to be read up on the latest pop culture phenomenon to get the jokes. You don’t even really need to know who the Bash Brothers are, that’s part of the charm of Lonely Island.

At its core, this is just Andy Samberg and his friends giving us a quick 3-minute escape from the world — and that’s all we can really ask for.
