Welcome into the Wednesday edition of the FanDuel daily fantasy baseball column! We have nice sized 10 game slate tonight so let’s get rolling.

What a bummer last night turned out to be. We really started off hot and were sitting in first place n a lot of our 50/50s for a little while. Then the Coors chalk hit with Carlos Gonzalez and Gerardo Parra left Charlie Blackmon in the dust as far as scoring goes. We were still within a few points and just one more out from Dan Straily might have gotten us a win. It was not to be as he gave up a two run homer having pitched 5.2 innings. That’s just how baseball works some nights but it’s time to turn our attention to tonight. One hiccup won’t stop us from hitting cash lines tonight!

Cubs at Pirates

Cubs Probable Starter – Kyle Hendricks, RHP

3.16 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 20.3 strikeout rate

Vs LHH – .206 average, .306 wOBA, 37.1 fly ball rate and 31.5 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .223 average, .263 wOBA, 25.9 fly ball rate and 34.8 hard contact rate

Typically when I see Hendricks is pitching, I basically just scratch off that side of the game and tonight is likely not going to be different. I never want to play Hendricks unless it’s a really small slate. He just doesn’t have a ton of upside and it’s not recommended to fall behind in the pitchers spot with some of the aces available tonight. The flip side is Hendricks has such good control, I don’t want to target against him either. Josh Harrison and Gregory Polanco both have BvP data working for them and are at fair price points. I might use them if they were last men in, but wouldn’t force them in.

Pirates Hitters to Target

Elite Options – None

Secondary Options – Josh Harrison, Gregory Polanco

Pirates Probable Starter – Joe Musgrove, RHP

*Stats from one start* 0.00 ERA, 0.71 WHIP and 28.0 strikeout rate

Vs LHH – .250 average, .267 wOBA, 50.0 fly ball rate and 66.7 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .176 average, .177 wOBA, 16.7 fly ball rate and 8.3 hard contact rate

I doubted Musgrove his last time out against the Cardinals and I’m still not quite sold on him against the Cubs tonight. Chicago has a good offense and has been putting it to the Buccos so far in this series. I’m not going hog wild with Cubbies since Musgrove showed what he’s capable of last time. I still think I’ll have a GPP with Musgrove even though I’m not crazy about him. At minimums price for a pitcher, he’s worth taking a shot at and fitting whatever hitters you want. I would lean just a little towards the lefty hitters. It wouldn’t surprise me if Musgrove got roughed up just a little bit here. Anthony Rizzo is on fire right now and is still just $4,100. While that’s expensive, it’s not bad for a hitter of his talent.
