2. Kelvin Herrera

With the Royals finally ready to tear it all down and restart, Kelvin Herrera is their best trade piece. His .92 ERA and .763 WHIP are easily among the best in the MLB as he has been dominant out of the bullpen. The Mets wouldn’t have to worry about him losing any leads that are given to him.

If acquired, he will slide into the role as closer. This would move Jeurys Familia to the set-up man role, letting Robert Gsellman go back to being a bridge guy. Instantly, the bullpen is in better shape. Lugo, Gsellman, and Sewald would act as bridge guys getting the game to the big arms in the bullpen. These three will always be able to get the game to the 7th or 8th inning. From there, Familia, Swarzak, and Herrera would be able to pitch the rest of the game. A.J. Ramos and Jerry Blevins would come in when needed to get righties or lefties.

This is a bullpen setup that would be able to survive even if the Mets starters are unable to go deep into games. Mickey Callaway would have to less thinking about his bullpen usage and simply follow the formula. Use the bridge guys to get it to the back of the bullpen. Right now, the bridge guys are having to get it all the way to Familia. This is why games are blowing up in the Mets faces as they need too many innings from their bridge relievers.

Acquiring Herrera would probably take Jacob Rhame and Justin Dunn. He is the one reliever who the Mets can count on to completely reshape their entire pitching staff for the better, it is worth the price.
