Few coaches around the nation have established the same amount of consistent success out of nowhere and kept it at that level for the past five years as Ken Niumatalolo with the Navy Midshipmen. He took over as the head football coach of Navy solely in 2007.

Since taking over the program before the 2007 campaign, Niumatalolo posted a record of 84-48. That’s very impressive considering the level of competition he’s faced in Annapolis, MD, during the course of his tenure. Navy has some tough opponents on tap each and every year between playing in the AAC and facing the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Moreover, Navy has one of the most interesting offenses to watch of any in the nation. The triple-option is hard to stop and hard to prepare for. The fact that Niumatalolo has executed that offensive scheme with this program for such a long span, it goes as a testament to how good of a systematic head coach he actually is.

It should only be a matter of time before he gets a Power Five school willing to give him a shot at a bigger head coaching gig. For now, he’s one of the most underrated and underappreciated coaches in the country and deserves more recognition than he’s getting now for the unique job he’s done with Navy.
