FanDuel Lineup and Picks for Thursday, May 31
Cubs at Mets
Cubs Probable Starter – Jose Quintana, LHP
4.78 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 21.9 strikeout rate
Vs LHH – .163 average, .247 wOBA, 29.0 fly ball rate and 26.5 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .274 average, .368 wOBA, 38.3 fly ball rate and 40.5 hard contact rate
Quintana might fly under the radar tonight with some of the other pitchers available and the fact he’s been pretty average all season so far. This is the best possible matchup he could ask for as the Mets are last in the majors in average, OPS, ISO and wOBA against south paw pitching. They also have just about the highest strikeout rate, .2 percentage points behind the leader. At just $8,300, I’ll likely end up with a share or two of Quintana. It’s definitely possible that he’s not quality tonight and you could take a stab at the ghost of Jose Bautista or Devin Mesoraco if you wanted to. Amed Rosario would also be a punt option if you need it.
Mets Hitters to Target
Elite Options – None
Secondary Options – Jose Bautista, Devin Mesoraco, Amed Rosario, Asdrubal Cabrera
Mets Probable Starter – Seth Lugo, RHP
2.48 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 26.2 strikeout rate
Vs LHH – .096 average, .183 wOBA, 33.3 fly ball rate and 24.3 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .284 average, .317 wOBA, 37.0 fly ball rate and 29.2 hard contact rate
This will be the first time that Lugo has started a game in 2018 and he doesn’t get the easiest task right out of the gates with the Cubs offense. I wouldn’t venture into playing Lugo even though he is minimum price and I think I’d just stick with the big names here for Chicago. I’m not going to talk you away from Anthony Rizzo or Kyle Schwarber, but through 20 or so innings this year, Lugo has displayed reverse splits. Kris Bryant and Javier Baez stand out the most in the split, although they have been relatively quiet lately. That won’t last too much longer.
