Nationals at Braves

Nationals Probable Starter – Tanner Roark, RHP

3.17 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 22.5 strikeout rate

Vs LHH – .220 average, .300 wOBA, 34.8 fly ball rate and 29.2 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .170 average, .232 wOBA, 36.8 fly ball rate and 26.1 hard contact rate

Roark takes the hill for the Nationals tonight and he’s facing a good offense that is a poor matchup for his splits. The odds are Roark will face three pure lefties in the first four hitters and Ozzie Albies is switch, so will also hit lefty. I have a feeling that Atlanta will go very under-owned tonight.  They let a lot of folks down(myself included) last night in one of the best matchups they could have possibly had. Roark is certainly a better pitcher than Jason Vargas is. Most players won’t go right back to the well but I think Atlanta might do some serious damage tonight. I personally won’t play Roark at all. My main interest is in the top of the Atlanta lineup, especially someone as cheap as Ender Inciarte.

Braves Hitters to Target

Elite Options – Freddie Freeman, Ender Inciarte

Secondary Options – Nick Markakis, Ozzie Albies

Braves Probable Starter – Sean Newcomb, LHP

2.75 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 26.6 strikeout rate

Vs LHH – .188 average, .338 wOBA, 39.1 fly ball rate and 39.1 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .208 average, .261 wOBA, 32.8 fly ball rate and 26.7 hard contact rate

I don’t think I’m going to be playing any Nationals tonight. I love Newcomb and think he can really show off tonight. The Nationals are a good offense and their seasonal ranks are dragged down a little bit when they were fighting injuries. Still, I think Newcomb is talented and is handling his business to both sides of the plate. What I will say for the Nationals is they have plenty of hitters that hit fastballs well. Newcomb throws that pitch over 60 percent of the time and that could be an issue this evening. Typically when there’s a lefty pitching against the Nationals, I run towards Anthony Rendon. At $4,000 against a good pitcher, I think I’ll pass. Newcomb scuffled in Boston in his last start. This is a big bounce back spot for the entire Braves squad tonight.
