New Jersey Devils: Kevin Smith

Many people know Kevin Smith as part of the duo Jay and Silent Bob, in which Silent Bob is portrayed by Smith and Jay is portrayed by Jason Mewes. But anybody who knows anything about Smith knows that he is a pretty avid hockey fan.

As a kid who was born in Red Bank, New Jersey, and grew up in nearby Highlands, Smith became pretty attached to the hometown New Jersey Devils. The team arrived in New Jersey in 1982, when Smith was going on 12 years old. Sounds like the perfect age to become hooked on a professional sports team for life.

Beyond sports, Smith went on to become an actor, a filmmaker, a comedian, a comic book writer, an author, and a podcaster. As far as working as a director and a producer, some of the films he has worked on are Cop Out, Red State, Tusk and others.

In the world of hockey, Smith also has a soft spot for the Edmonton Oilers, having often been seen wearing Oilers gear. His interest in the Oilers mainly stemmed from the Wayne Gretzky Edmonton teams of the 1980s.

But first and foremost, Smith always supports his hometown Devils. As a Devils fan, he was fortunate enough to witness the entire era of Martin Brodeur, one of the NHL’s all-time great goaltenders, from 1993 to 2014. During that span, the Devils won three Stanley Cups and five Eastern Conference championships.

Not a bad way to spend two and a half decades as a hockey fan.
