Colorado Avalanche: Trey Parker

What is Trey Parker known for? It’s not just for being a fan of the Denver sports teams, particularly the Colorado Avalanche.

Parker is most well-known for being the co-creator of the adult sitcom South Park, along with Matt Stone. The pair created the show back in 1997, and it’s been a popular hit ever since, now over 20 years old. They are also known for co-writing and co-directing The Book of Mormon, which was a winner of a Tony Award.

Parker and Stone met each other while attending the University of Colorado, Boulder. They made the musical film Cannibal! The Musical while they were still in college. Before they launched the success of South Park, they wrote the film Orgazmo together and yes, that movie is exactly what it sounds like.

Parker has had a very successful career in the business, having won five Primetime Emmy Awards for South Park, as well as four Tony Awards and a Grammy Award. This all came after he spent his childhood growing up in Colorado and being exposed to the many sports teams in the Denver area.

Of course, it wasn’t until 1995 when Parker got a chance to root for his hometown Colorado Avalanche. That was the year the Quebec Nordiques were relocated to Denver and took on the new name. But it probably wasn’t too hard to become attached to the Avalanche, as they won the Stanley Cup in their very first season in Colorado.

Parker got to see his team win the Cup again a few years later, when the Avalanche went all the way in 2001.
