14. San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers have an incredibly bright future. The tandem of Jimmy Garoppolo and Kyle Shanahan should have championship visions dancing in the heads of those by the East Bay, but not yet. The 49ers need more around them to be a true threat, but they are on the rise.

13. Detroit Lions

Matthew Stafford is one of the most underrated players in football, largely because he never has a chance to be noticed. The Lions have talent on both sides, but they desperately need first-time head coach Matt Patricia to put the pieces together. This club has the skill to win the franchise’s first playoff game since 1991.

12. Kansas City Chiefs

If Patrick Mahomes is good, the Chiefs will be in the playoffs. If he’s bad, they might not have a winning record. If he somehow lives up to the absurd hype, Kansas City could threaten in the AFC. They are a true wild card in a bad conference.

11. Los Angeles Chargers

You can take the Chargers and Chiefs and toss them in a bag, pick one and claim them as the AFC West favorite. The reason Los Angeles gets the nod here? Philip Rivers is a know quantity and Mahomes isn’t. That said, the Chargers need to finally beat Kansas City, who they have lost to eight consecutive times.
