The Cleveland Cavaliers and their fans are licking their wounds right now. They were that close to stealing a Game 1 victory in the defending champs’ building, but it was all for naught.

Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue — among the most even-keeled guys in the league’s coaching hierarchy – looked demoralized at the podium after the Game 1 loss against the Golden State Warriors.

And to make matters worse, the NBA’s Last Two Minute Report just revealed that officials missed two calls in the final minute against Golden State forward Draymond Green.

The first non-call came with 12.1 seconds remaining. As LeBron James danced around at the top of the key, Green grabbed his James’ arm and affected his freedom of movement, the league said.

Had the foul been called, James would have gone to the line for two shots. He’s a career 74 percent free-throw shooter in the playoffs. He shot 10 for 11 from the free throw line in Game 1.

Then, after Klay Thompson fouled George Hill with 4.7 seconds remaining and Hill sunk his first free throw, Green stepped into the lane before Hill released his second free throw.

Had the lane violation been called, Hill would have been awarded another free throw. None of the chaos that ensued after JR Smith’s mental lapse would have happened.

And so it goes in the Land.

As James’ storied career grows longer and longer, he seems to become more clutch by the day. Once accused of being a choker in big moments, his reel of buzzer beaters now appears astonishingly impressive. We’ll never know, but it certainly feels like he would have made his two free throws.

Hill is a career 80 percent free-throw shooter in the playoffs. You can’t help but think that if he gets a third opportunity, he’s not missing.

If Cleveland had snuck out of Oracle Arena with a Game 1 victory, it’d be a completely different series. But instead, they’re down zero games to one and face the daunting task of recovering from a major letdown.
