5 NFL free agents you need to know more about
Dontrelle Inman – Wide Receiver
Dontrelle Inman started off last season as a member of the San Diego chargers but was a part of one of the more crowded receiving corps in the NFL and barely made it onto the field. He was on the depth chart as there four or even five receiver and only saw action in two games for them.
Following a trade mid-season to the Chicago Bears, he quickly emerged as the number one target but in a run heavy offense and a rookie quarterback. Inman finished the season with 25 receptions for 343 yards and a touchdown. At 6-foot-3 and 205 pounds, Inman has very good size and has had flashes of some serious talent throughout his career. In 2016, he stepped In and proved that he could lead a receiving corps, as the Chargers top receivers went down with injuries. He hauled in 58 receptions for 910 yards and four touchdowns, having his best year as a pro thus far.
Inman should have no problem contributing right away as a No. 2 or 3 receiver. Inman has terrific size and length combined with the ability to use his hands rather than body to snag the football away from defensive backs. Not the fastest or most elusive guy out there but he runs some sneaky good routes and knows how to work defensive backs to get open. He was the Bears top target during most of his time with Chicago last season and in 2016 had a terrific year with San Diego.
Inman is 29 years old and entering his fifth NFL season as a under-the-radar free agent but with some serious talent and value that could be extremely useful for several teams looking for a big reliable target.
Potential Landing Spot – Buffalo Bills
There are a few teams out there in some serious need of wide receiver help but none seem to stick out more than the Buffalo Bills. Kelvin Benjamin is without question the main guy, but he is coming off a torn ACL in 2015. Zay Jones was a solid draft pick last season but he has had issues with drops here and there and was arrested this off season in a bizarre incident at a hotel.
Inman could come into this Bills receiving corps and make a difference right away as the potential two or three receiver. The Bills also just drafted who they think will be there franchise quarterback in Josh Allen so providing him with another reliable pass-catcher will help make his life much easier. The Bills didn’t address the receiver position through the draft so grabbing Inman now seems like a very smart and logical decision.
