The Milwaukee Bucks need rebounding and shooting, but are without the financial means to chase high-end talent.

If there was an award for Most Disappointing Team in 2017-18, the Milwaukee Bucks would be one of the favorites to win it.

A November trade to acquire Eric Bledsoe elicited hope in the fanbase. A trio of Giannis Antetkounmpo, Bledsoe, and Khris Middleton, plus the return of Jabari Parker, looked good enough to improve on their 42 win 2016-17 campaign and get them out of the first round for the first time since 2000-01.

Jason Kidd, struggling to keep the team over .500, was dismissed. The move was lauded by Milwaukee fans, but upset their star small forward. In the end, it didn’t make a huge difference as interim coach Joe Prunty didn’t fare much better. The Bucks were two wins better in the regular season and once again failed to get out of the first round.

The Bucks already took care of their biggest piece of offseason business, hiring Mike Budenholzer to fill their head coaching vacancy. With an established and well-respected coach on the bench, the Bucks will look to equip him with the proper pieces.

That could prove difficult as the Bucks don’t have cap space to work with. Even if they don’t match an offer for Jabari Parker, they’re still over the cap. That’s what happens when you pay Matthew Dellavedova, Tony Snell, and John Henson a combined $30 million. They’re stuck shopping for players willing to take the mid-level or bi-annual exception, or making a trade to clear extra space.
