NBA Rumors: DeAndre Jordan interested in signing with Rockets
League sources claim DeAndre Jordan has his heart set on leaving the Clippers to go home and sign with the Houston Rockets this summer.
There won’t be any shortage of big-name free agents interested in going to Houston to play alongside James Harden and Chris Paul this summer. It seems you can add Houston native DeAndre Jordan to the growing list.
According to the Rockets Wire, sources claim Jordan has spoken to Rockets players on multiple occasions about his desire to join them next season. The 29-year-old center holds a player option for next season that would pay him $24.1 million. It’s possible the talented center may opt out in an effort to sign a long-term agreement with the franchise of his choice.
Jordan may want to sign with Houston, but there’s no indication the Rockets are interested in acquiring him. They have their own big man to retain this summer. Clint Capela will be a restricted free agent but team officials have been adamant they’ll match any offer that comes his way. It’s conceivable the team could be forced to pony up a maximum contract for their talented rim protector.
There are only two free agents that Houston should consider letting go of Capela to sign. Suffice it to say, Jordan isn’t one of them. The Rockets should only make that kind of sacrifice to sign a superstar wing like LeBron James or Paul George. Jordan is a good player, but he doesn’t effect the game like either James or George at this point in his career.
Ironically, Jordan’s best chance to play basketball in Texas next season probably lies in Dallas. The Mavericks project to have enough cap space to sign Jordan to a big offer if he elects to opt out of his deal with the Clippers. Of course, Dallas will think twice about dealing with Jordan after his well-publicized dalliance with the franchise during the summer of 2015.

Ultimately, DeAndre Jordan might want to play for the Rockets next season, but the chances of his dreams being realized are slim to none. He isn’t what Houston needs to close the gap with Golden State.
