Here’s where you can watch the Belmont Stakes online

Should Justify win the Belmont and become the 13th horse to successfully sweep the Triple Crown, it will be something to watch. Should he lose in a tight race it should be something to watch.

This time out Justify will face 9 other horses trying to keep him from sweeping the Triple Crown. Most of them he has already beaten, in either the Kentucky Derby or the Preakness, but there are a few new faces. The old friends include Preakness runner-up Bravazo (who also finished 6th in the Derby), and the 7th, 9th, 16th and 17th finishers in the Kentucky Derby. It may seem like those last few Derby finishers are just going to be also-rans, but anything can happen in horse racing.

Meanwhile, it looks like Justify will have to win his first Triple Crown race on a fast track. I don’t think the fast track will hurt him (or for that matter Bravazo,) but it could give a big boost to some of the others. Not all horses take well to running in mud, especially sloppy mud. You don’t have to look any further back than the Preakness for evidence of that.

The horse I was intrigued by in that race was Quip… who finished last. He had never raced on a wet track before. But the Belmont should go down on a fast track. That could be a bit of a challenge for Justify and Bravazo, both of whom raced well in the mud; but it could mean good things for horses like Free Drop Billy and Noble Indy, who didn’t.

And Gronkowski, who missed the Derby after contracting an infection, is in the line up for the Belmont.
