10 young players to watch
By Harvey Cruz
9. Amine Harit
Amine Harit was the 2017-18 Bundesliga Rookie of the Year. Bought from French club Nantes, the 20-year-old Moroccan winger is a dribbling wizard. And while that may not lead to huge goal production — he had three goals and three assists this season — he’s getting the playing time to show off why Schalke bought him.
He’s earned the trust of his manager, Domenico Tedesco, and will get the opportunity to test himself against Europe’s elite in the Champions League next season after starting 23 games as Schalke finished second in the Bundesliga in 2017-18.
As for the World Cup, he’ll have to make the most of his time there. Morocco aren’t expected to get out of their group, with Portugal, Iran and Spain in their way in Group B. However, they have some nice players in Medhi Benatia, the Amrabat brothers and Hakim Ziyech.
Morocco are well set up for the future, but will want to at least give Portugal and Spain good games to show off their talent. With Harit as their poster boy for the future, it won’t be long until the watching world knows his name and his game.
