DFS GOLF: US Open – OB’s FanDuel Lineup
DFS GOLF Picks: US Open
Before looking towards this weekends major, let’s acknowledge the success of last weeks DFS Golf edition of OB’s Lineup at the FedEx St. Jude Classic.
For those of you who are wondering, OB’s Lineup is a weekly column presented by yours truly (Michael O’Brien) that breaks down the best strategies to attack during the PGA Tour’s weekend and presents the reader with a base lineup that they can play on their own, or customize to their preferences. These lineups are specified for FanDuel but the picks and advice apply to all fantasy golf platforms.
Last weekend, OB’s lineup cashed with ease. This is due to the fact that 4 out of the 6 picks placed within the top 20 on the leaderboard, including FedEx St. Jude winner Dustin Johnson who won by a landslide. DJ put up an amazing -19 finish and beat out the latent Andrew Putnam by 6 strokes.
Now that we’ve applauded last weekends success, let’s move to strategies for the US Open.
This week’s slate is absolutely loaded with star-power as expected. This leaves room for diversity and selectiveness when it comes to YOUR lineups. If you like someone in the same price range more than who I have listed, feel free to customize to your needs. After all, this is your money. I’m here to guide you, not constrict you. This is especially true when the field of golfers is as large as this weekend.
For the US Open, I’m creating a strong core three of elite golfers and filling the bottom half of my lineup with safe buy-low candidates who should make the cut and approach T40 on the leaderboard. The statistic to look at this week is Greens In Regulation Percentage, this is fitted to Shinnecock Hills‘ adjusted fairways and greens. This statistic is relative to a players approach to the green and should help you decide your buy low candidates.
DFS Golf – OB’s FanDuel PGA Lineup
Jason Day
Day (FD $12,000) is having a true career year as he has won two tournaments already. In this field of play, I feel he will be a low-ownership stud who will perform as he ALWAYS does. This isn’t a pick to over think. He has been T20 in 7 of his last 9 PGA Tour appearances and hasn’t missed a cut within that time. I feel Day is in the top-tier of golfers and is going for less than golfers like JT, DJ, and JR ( Justin Rose I just felt I had to abbreviate it like the other two. ) He’s an experienced pro who could most certainly give this tournament a run for its money. Feel safe picking Day and roll him out in your lineup as a high floor professional play.
Rickie Fowler
I’m a sucker when it comes to Rickie (FD $11,400). Thankfully, the course seems to fit his play style well. Expect Rickie to paint the fairways and remain out of the bunkers this weekend. He, like many others, took the FedEx St. Jude Classic off to practice for the open and has been rumored to been working strenuously on his game. A win isn’t out of the cards for Fowler as he is still searching for his first 2018 PGA Tour win. Why not do it on one of the biggest stages of the year? I believe Rickie “balls out” this weekend and shows the world why he is one of the top golfers both nationally and internationally.

Tiger Woods
This is a pure storyline pick and if there is one thing we know for sure, Tiger fulfills his prophecies. He is competing for his FOURTH US Open win and is looking to make even more history as he solidifies himself in the history books. He has been phenomenal as of late and has been getting progressively better as the year goes on. The back injury seems to be a thing of the past. “I’m not that far from winning” was all over headlines everywhere as Tiger addressed reporters after THE PLAYERS tournament where he finished T11. This is a pick you should be excited about. His floor is high enough, and his ceiling as the great Michael Jordan would say “is the roof”.
Keegan Bradley
Keegan is simply a bomber. He hits well off the tee and should be able to work his way onto the fairways with ease as he is one of the top golfers in Driving Accuracy. Expect Keegan to keep it simple and take advantage of the wider fairways. His short game needs to be mediocre for him to put up a great performance at Shinnecock and should put up at minimum a T35 performance. Making 13/15 cuts among the best golfers in the world, Keegan is a solid long ball play who should give your lineup some stability while having a higher upside than most.
Gary Woodland
Let me get this off of my chest. GARY WOODLAND IS TOO CHEAP. While studying the course in my US Open Preview, I continuously was hoping that Woodland would be underpriced because I know he is going to kill it on this course. He is 5th in Greens in Regulation percentage which is perfect for this course and his price (FD $8,600). Buy Gary Woodland as one of your values. He is no doubt going to meet his price-point and is almost promised to exceed it.
Scott Lowry
Lowry (FD $8,200) is a solid high-floor cheap play who should return value. Most importantly, for a guy this low he makes his cuts and should be able to compete among the best in this weekends major. This is a pick that is simply because I prefer Lowry over many of the golfers around him. This is one of the slots that is interchangeable. Lowry is a steady pro and should look to mosey his way to a T45 finish this weekend, if not higher. I’m taking the Irishman over the other golfers at the bottom of the barrel.
