MLB DFS Picks – Standouts: June 12th
MLB DFS Picks – Standouts: June 12th
Tonight’s MLB DFS Picks slate features 15 games, with Boston (5.4), New York (5.2), Cleveland (5.2), St. Louis (5), and Milwaukee (4.9), holding the best projected team totals. There aren’t as many high-end pitching options tonight, so instead of searching for value, finding players in optimal matchups will be more important. We’ll be aiming to highlight MLB DFS picks from the perspective of batted ball data, batter splits, and line movement.
MLB DFS Picks: Batted Ball Stats
Luis Valbuena – DK $3200, FD $2400
Luis Valbuena should get the start tonight, as the Angels will take on the righty, Mike Leake. While Valbuena hasn’t filled the fantasy scorebox of late, his recent batted ball numbers are off the charts. In the last 15 days, his batted ball distance is up 39 feet, his exit velocity is up 6 MPH, and his hard hit percentage is up 15%, over his yearly average. This is one of the biggest discrepancies I’ve seen this season, and is be a good indicator that positive regression should be on its way.

Batter Splits
Jedd Gyorko – DK $3500, FD $2400
Jedd Gyorko will be an excellent value play, on both DraftKings and FanDuel. Gyorko will face off against the lefty Matthew Strahm. Gyorko is much better against left-handed pitching, with a .464 wOBA split (.180 better than when facing a righty) and a .329 ISO split (.200 better than when facing a righty). St. Louis has one of the higher projected team totals on the slate, which should benefit Gyorko.
Yoan Moncada – DK $3900, FD $3500
Yoan Moncada is another second baseman to consider tonight. He’ll draw a matchup against the righty, Adam Plutko. Moncada, a switch hitter, is much better against right-handed pitching, with a .346 wOBA split (.101 better than when facing a lefty) and a .212 ISO split (.111 better than when facing a lefty).
Line Movement
Chicago White Sox Batters
Chicago will host the visiting Cleveland Indians tonight, in a game in which Cleveland opened as -170 favorites. Since opening, this line has fallen all the way down to where it currently sits, at -135. White Soxs batter will face Adam Plutko, who was roughed up in his last start, against these same White Soxs. Plutko allowed five earned runs, two coming by way of the long ball. On the year, Plutko has allowed an opposing batted ball distance of 237 feet (highest on the slate), an exit velocity of 93 MPH (third highest on the slate) and a hard hit percentage of 41% (third highest on the slate).
