2. Ivan Nova

Some Yankees fans don’t want to see Nova anywhere near the team again. It’s a safe bet the front office won’t make such an emotional decision. If the Pirates are willing to let Nova go for the right price, Cashman and company will certainly consider bringing him back to the Bronx.

He hasn’t been great in Pittsburgh this season but he could help the Yankees by being a reliable starter in the back-end of their rotation. His 4.68 ERA isn’t good, but he does do a nice job of consistently keeping his team in the ballgame.

He gets the slight nod over Duffy on this list because his contract is easier for the Yankees to absorb. At worst, New York would only be on the hook for just over $9 million to keep Nova around next season. That isn’t likely to be a good contract, but it’s not disastrous either.

Swapping Drury for Nova isn’t the most inspiring deal of all-time, but it would give the Yankees a legitimate pitcher to fill the fifth spot in their rotation. That’s not something the team currently possesses. Don’t be shocked to see Nova come back for one more tour of duty for the Yankees.
