player. 27. . G. Villanova. Mikal Bridges. 9

The New York Knicks desperately need to stabilize the perimeter. Most are aware of how poorly the Knicks have played on defense, but what’s too often overlooked is how erratic they are from 3-point range. In 2017-18, the Knicks ranked No. 29 in the NBA in 3-point field goals made and attempted. Personnel development will help, but finding the ideal wing is two-fold. Not only must New York be able to defend at a high level, but they must also be lethal from distance.

Playing at Madison Square Garden is an honor, but it’s also a burden. Simply put: No star in the history of the sport has decided to coast at The Mecca. Defense and shooting become essential to counter that truth. Thankfully, Mikal Bridges fits both elements of the criteria. Bridges was an elite defender at the collegiate level due to his ability to keep slashers in front of him and close out quickly against shooters. He also converted 104 3-point field goals on 43.5 percent shooting. The Kawhi Leonard comparisons may be ambitious, but he should at least be an Otto Porter Jr. type of super-glue-guy. Throw in Bridges’ revered work ethic and this makes sense on both ends of the floor and in the upside department. David Fizdale should cherish this pick.
