23. Bartolo Colon

Somehow, someway, the ageless wonder Bartolo Colon continues finding a way to get the job done in the big leagues. Now 45, Colon is his generation’s Jamie Moyer. The big right-hander is 3-3 with a 4.16 ERA through 13 games with the Texas Rangers this season and even flirted with a no-hitter against the defending World Series champs.

Had Colon actually thrown a no-hitter, the Internet may have imploded on the spot.

It appeared last season that Colon’s career was set to wind down. He was released by the Atlanta Braves after going 2-8 with an 8.14 ERA in 13 starts. Colon only improved slightly after being picked up by the Minnesota Twins, where he went 5-6 with a 5.18 ERA. Overall, Big Sexy finished the 2017 season 7-14 with a 6.48 ERA and allowed a whopping 12.1 hits per nine.

Colon is in the portion of his career where he can take it a year at a time. There is clearly still enough left in the tank for him to offer some value as a trade chip. He isn’t going to win anyone a title, but could make sense for a team on the fringes of playoff contention or a rebuilding squad in need of a veteran to help protect their younger arms. If Colon goes to a playoff contender and pitches well, he will easily buy himself another year in the big leagues if he wants it.
