DraftKings Main MLB Picks June 14: Should we stack against Snell?

We have nine games on Thursday. The Marlins and Giants are getting going before the crack of noon, so they are only available in the all day and showdown tournaments. The other eight games are evenly split with four in the afternoon and four in the evening. The pitching was much better in the afternoon. This bottom tier looks dreadful tonight, but that should give us plenty of stack options!

No rain is expected, but there is a stout 16 mph wind blowing out to right in Yankee Stadium. As if the hitters needed any more help there!

We will provide you with several options to build your lineup here. Want to spend all your money on pitchers and play bargain bats? We will highlight who is worth the money. Want to punt arms and pay up for the big boppers? We can help you with that as well, and everything in between!

These tips are based mostly on past performance. This is a nice tool for building a lineup, but should not be the only pieces of information you use. Stacking against a bad pitcher is always a good idea!

HOUSTON, TX – JUNE 02: David Price #24 of the Boston Red Sox pitches in the first inning against the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park on June 2, 2018 in Houston, Texas. (Photo by Bob Levey/Getty Images) /

Top Tier:

Blake Snell ($10,900): Snell is in the midst of a breakout season in large part because he has figured out how to limit the walks. The strikeouts are still there, but he has been far more dominant at home. Moreover, he had his worst start of the season right here at Yankee Stadium. This stadium is magical. It has the power to turn Blake Snell into Ian Snell. Snell was torched for five runs in 3.1 innings pitched. I don’t care how short the slate or the options tonight. We can do better than Snell. The strikeouts will be there, but at what cost?

David Price ($8,600): The Mariners are only hitting .220 against Price, but they do have five home runs in 91 at bats. Price does have 24 strikeouts in that span, and has only allowed nine runs. Surprisingly, Price only has two career starts in Safeco Field despite spending his entire career in the American League. Price has a 2.81 ERA in those starts. Expect him to do that number justice tonight.

Middle Tier:

Tyson Ross ($8,100): Ross is a talented pitcher, but he is going to have some issues in Atlanta. This is an extreme hitter’s park favoring left handed power, both of which are bad things for Ross. However, if you have the cash burning a hole in your digital pocket, he is worth a flier in GPP formats. Just keep him away from Markakis and Inciarte.

Frankie Montas ($7,500): Montas has been outstanding so far in his three starts. That said, two of those were against the Royals. The other was against an Arizona squad that was struggling at the time. There is plenty of risk here, though the Houston offense hasn’t exactly set the world afire lately. For the price, I would either find the $200 for Rodon or use any of the three below Montas, especially since he has no shot at a win against Verlander.

Lance Lynn ($6,900): The Tigers are hitting only .194 against Lynn in 36 at bats, but that is a small sample size. Lynn picked up 22.8 DraftKings points in that first game against the Tigers, putting up 6.2 shutout innings. This Tigers offense was reeling even before Miggy went down. Now they are kind of spiraling out of control. This is a strong spot for Lynn here.

Bargain Pitchers:

Domingo German ($6,700): I almost wish Loaisiga was making his major league debut tonight as originally thought so I could use him as a punt on a short slate. Instead, we will have to play with fire with German. The Rays don’t have much for power, but they could get lucky with the wind blowing out to right. German gives up plenty of hard hit balls, so it is possible. However, German should be able to put together a good strikeout total.

Anibal Sanchez ($5,500): Sanchez shows virtually no strikeout upside, but if you want to stack Yankees, you need at least one cheap arm. Sanchez has a 2.37 ERA in five starts this year, and could stick in the rotation with the continued struggles of McCarthy. At any rate, this is a great spot for Anibal facing the weak hitting Padres.

German Marquez ($5,300): Marquez is the cheapest arm on the slate, but I don’t expect him to have the worst game. That alone makes him worth a look. The numbers for Marquez don’t look very good, but if you take a closer look, Marquez has a strong 2.06 ERA in six road games this year. The Philadelphia offense is decent, but we haven’t seen them have a really big game in a while. I can see Marquez turning in a quality start at a very low price.

Top Tier:

The slumping Gary Sanchez has smacked three homers in ten at bats against Blake Snell. Stanton has homered off of him as well. Judge still doesn’t have a hit against Snell, but he has walked six times in 12 plate appearances. Tyler Austin could be worth a look as well.

Anibal Sanchez has been very good for the Braves this year, but I still like Hosmer and Travis Jankowski here. I’m not really crazy about anyone else on this team.

The Diamondbacks have hit Steven Matz hard, but as our Bill Pivetz shows us, Arizona is not always a good bet at home in 2018. Even the mighty Paul Goldschmidt, who is 2-5 with two solo homers off of Matz. Jeff Mathis and John Ryan Murphy have also homered off of Matz. I’m not big on Lamb or Peralta, but I’m having a hard time moving off of Jay though. Ketel Marte and Chris Owings look very good too.

I don’t trust King Felix, even at home. Mitch Moreland is only 10-52 against Hernandez, but he has two homers, ten runs, and three RBI. Jackie Bradley has the only other homer off of Felix, but I like the idea of stacking the Red Sox outfield. They are very expensive, but there is plenty of cheap pitching available to pull this off.

The Mariners are a good place to chase homers tonight, even if you use Price as your pitcher. Nelson Cruz has two homers and four RBI against Price. Zunino, Kyle Seager, and Denard Span have all homered off of Price as well. Just don’t expect a lot of RBI to go with it.

Middle Tier:

Jake Bauers is one of my favorite plays against Domingo German. I’m a big fan of C.J. Cron, Willy Adames, and Carlos Gomez are worth a look as well.

A Braves stack may be in order anchored by Nick Markakis, which is 5-8 with two runs and two RBI, and Ender Inciarte. I would even take them over Freeman. However, with the top of the pitching food chain being risky, we should have plenty to spend on bats. Add Ozzie and Dansby Swanson into the mix as well.

I’m stacking Mets against Matt Koch in at least a half dozen lineups. Brandon Nimmo and Asdrubal Cabrera are the best options. I also like Mesoraco, Conforto, and Todd Frazier to finish this off. Humidor or not, Koch still has a 4.32 ERA at home.

Jose Abreu is the only White Sox player to take Clevinger deep, and he is the only one that I would remotely consider here.

Bargain Shoppers:

Both Lucroy and Khris Davis have homered off of Verlander in his career. I don’t care how cheap they are, I’m not interested. That’s how dominant Verlander has been this season.
