MLB trade rumors: One player each team should target

Every MLB team will be preparing to make trades to fill their needs, here is one player each team should look to bring in this year.

MLB teams can change drastically in the middle of a season with a trade. Think as recently as 2016. The Cubs and Indians met in the playoffs, and both had major contributors they got at the trade deadline. For the Cubs it was Aroldis Chapman and for the Indians it was Andrew Miller. In 2015, Yoenis Cespedes single-handedly carried the Mets to the playoffs. Well, we are nearing trade season, and each team wants that type of impact to be had on their season.

Arizona Diamondbacks

Scooter Gennett, 2B

The Diamondbacks started the year 21-8, easily becoming the top team in the NL West with the struggles of the Dodgers. However since then, the going hasn’t been easy. After their hot start, they’ve been abysmal.

The team that once has the best record in the National League, now has the worst team batting average in the MLB. While they weren’t excelling before May, in the month of May, they hit .193. The only reason they’re able to win any game with such a terrible offense is their pitching. The Patrick Corbin and Zack Greinke led unit has surrendered only the 5th lowest wOBA in baseball all year. So, in a year where they’re getting such outstanding pitching, they can’t just give up.

To fix their offense, it will need Paul Goldschmidt to break out of his season-long slump. He’s hitting below .220, and as the team’s expected MVP he needs to change that. Then, they eagerly await the return of A.J. Pollock. However, to start, they need someone to come in and change whats happening right now. That someone is Scooter Gennett.

Gennett is having a breakout year, hitting .342. He can come to the Diamondbacks and be a catalyst for their offense. He’ll get on base and drive in runs, hopefully becoming a hitter that provides energy through the roster. Gennett also comes with the added bonus of being arbitration eligible for next year. So, if the Diamondbacks don’t put it together this year, they can resign Pollock and Corbin and still have Gennett fixing their second base hole next year.
