Seattle Mariners

Khris Davis, OF

The Mariners have the lead in the AL West and it hasn’t come without its fair share of adversity. They’ve lost Robinson Cano to suspension and Dee Gordon to a toe injury. That puts them without arguably their two best offensive players but they’ve persevered through it. A lot of the help has come from Mitch Haniger and his 12 home runs.

They’re still playing the grey-bearded Denard Span in left field and that should be the area they look to upgrade before the trade deadline. The pitching staff will be able to take the team to the postseason the way it has performed so far this year, so offense is the area of concern for Jerry Dipoto.

Khris Davis makes the ideal candidate. Despite playing DH with the A’s, he has the ability to play left field and would be expected to do so with the Mariners. The last 2 years, he’s had 40+ home runs and will bring another power bat to the Mariners. The Mariners have the 19th most home runs this year and could use some more pop. It has become a need with Nelson Cruz’s drop from .261 to .220 in isolated power.

Not to mention, the Mariners are planning on winning beyond this year. So, having Davis under arbitration next year will help them maintain this year’s success. The Mariners should look to get the A’s to part with Davis so they can continue to battle the Astros for the division lead.
