NBA Draft 2018: 5 targets for the Utah Jazz

After trading for the best player in the draft last season, the Jazz look to the draft again to add a piece to compliment Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert.

One of the most difficult things for a general manager is to find franchise players that are on the same timeline and play well together.

The easiest way to find two star players to play together is through the draft. Playoff teams like the Milwaukee Bucks, Portland Trail Blazers, and Golden State Warriors are playoff contenders because of their ability to draft well despite not having the first overall pick. They’ve uncovered talent later in the draft, developed them into the players they are today, and have continued to be successful year after year.

For the Jazz, they’ve been able to find two cornerstones through the draft (by trading with the Nuggets) in Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell. With those two players leading the franchise, they can look to the draft to find players that compliment the talent of their star players.
