Ranking the 10 best playoff series of LeBron James’ career
6. 2013: NBA Finals vs. San Antonio Spurs (won series 4-3)
Series Averages: 25.3 points, 10.9 rebounds, 7 assists, 44.7 FG%, 43:20 minutes
By 2013, LeBron, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh were firing on all cylinders. After beating the Pacers in a seven-game series to take the Eastern Conference crown, they met San Antonio in the finals and won another seven-game series to capture a second-straight NBA title.
In stark contrast to his six years in Cleveland, LeBron had two other All-Star wingmen in Miami. After the Heat won the 2012 title, Pat Riley signed Ray Allen to bolster his team’s already formidable supporting cast. With Wade and Bosh supplementing the Heat’s offensive output, James wasn’t asked to score 40 points a night. His scoring numbers dropped but the other aspects of his game flourished and he went to another level as a complete player, making all of his teammates better players as well. In seven games, LeBron had five double-doubles and a pair of triple-doubles in the other two.
Best single-game performance: Game 7 (Heat 95 – Spurs 88)
The most memorable game of the series was Miami’s overtime win on Ray Allen’s second chance corner 3. Like the Bill Buckner error, that play is the first that people think of from this series and most probably assume it was in Game 7. It was actually Game 6 though and didn’t win the series but kept the Heat alive, sending the series to a 3-3 tie. In Game 7 at home, LeBron had his best scoring performance of the 2013 playoffs with 37 and he added 12 rebounds to make it a double-double.
