Ahead of the 2018 U.S. Open from Shinnecock Hills, here’s a complete list of winners of America’s national championship.

Since its inception in 1895, the U.S. Open has been one of the most coveted titles in golf and the winner’s list includes some of the biggest names in the history of the sport. Starting with Horace Rawlins’ win at Newport Country Club in the inaugural tournament and ending with Brooks Koepka’s record-tying performance at Erin Hills a season ago, 86 men have won 117 U.S. Open tournaments and another name (maybe new, maybe not) will be added to this prestigious list come Sunday evening at Shinnecock Hills, which will host the U.S. Open for the fifth time.

Topping the list with four U.S. Open victories are Jack Nicklaus, Bobby Jones, Ben Hogan and Willie Anderson. Anderson also holds the distinction as the only man to have won this tournament in three consecutive years, doing so from 1903-1905. It must be noted, however, that Hogan won the event in three consecutive attempts. After winning at Riviera in 1948, he was forced to miss the 1949 event due to injury following a near-fatal car crash in February of that year. He would return to win the U.S. Open in 1950 and again in 1951. Hale Irwin and Tiger Woods have three victories each. Tiger holds the record for the biggest margin of victory at 15 strokes with that dominating performance at Pebble Beach in 2000 and is also one of just six men to go wire-to-wire to win and is the only one to do it twice.
