Canadiens fans have full-blown meltdown after team trades Alex Galchenyuk
Fans of the Montreal Canadiens aren’t too happy with what appears to be another general manager getting the best of a one-for-one swap.
The trade record of the Montreal Canadiens over the past couple of seasons is not….good.
First, there was P.K. Subban for Shea Weber. Next, Mikhail Sergachev for Jonathan Drouin. Both moves were questionable at best at the time. Today, they look way worse as the Nashville Predators and Tampa Bay Lightning enjoy playoff success while Weber can’t stay healthy and Drouin is on the ice for every goal against.
You know what the definition of insanity is? Doing the same thing over again, expecting a different result.
The Canadiens made another one-for-one swap this offseason, dealing Alex Galchenyuk to the Arizona Coyotes for Max Domi. On paper, it seems to be a lateral move that could benefit both teams. But Montreal fans aren’t playing games on paper.
They are playing with their emotions. When the deal was announced, the haunting memories of off-seasons past crept up and spooked the Montreal faithful. Below, you can see a sampling of the reactions from the die-hard Habs faithful who are not taking the news of the trade well. While it’ll take some time to evaluate the winners and losers of the trade, the immediate reaction from Montreal is they took an “L” on this deal.
So, things are just fine in Montreal.

While we would normally wait to judge a trade until after the first period of their first game, it’s understandable that Canadiens fans would be a bit skeptical. Fool me once, shame on you.
Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times, there’s a reason general managers keep calling to make these deals.
