Luis Suarez missed three clear chances against Egypt as Uruguay snatched a win thanks to Jose Gimenez’s late goal.

Uruguay may have dominated Egypt in their Group A encounter played Friday, but it was a game highlighted by Luis Suarez’s inability to find the back of the net.

The Barcelona striker missed three chances to put the game for the South Americans, with his series of blunders keeping the game scoreless for much of the contest.

The biggest miss came in the 24th minute, off a corner kick, when an unmarked Suarez missed a sitter from just six yards out, the ball hitting the side-netting.

Suarez’s failed attempt from point-blank range left him stunned.

That wasn’t all. Suarez looked out of sorts for much of the first half and misread plays on several occasions as his teammate Edinson Cavani tried to create scoring chances for the attack. The Egyptian defense was also good at stripping the ball from Suarez as he lacked power in the final third.

In yet another blown chance against Egypt, a free kick from 30 yards out in the 33rd minute saw Suarez’s attempt hit the wall.

Less than a minute into the second half, Suarez was denied after Cavani chipped ahead a ball for him down the right side. With the ball in his path, Suarez blasted a shot, but goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shennawy, in great form all game, came though with a kick save.

In the 72nd minute, Suarez had another great scoring chance, but took too many touches that allowed El-Shennawy to come off his line and grab the ball.

It was Jose Gimenez, rising high for a header off a set piece in the 90th minute, who scored the winning goal for Uruguay.
