Kawhi Leonard and the San Antonio Spurs have been going back and forth since the start of the season. It appears everything is coming full circle now.

The San Antonio Spurs made the playoffs once again thanks to the genius of Gregg Popovich’s coaching. They also managed to make the playoffs without the help of their best player Kawhi Leonard.

Leonard suffered a quad injury that had him sidelined for quite a while. When he returned he re-aggravated that injury, and was forced to missed the entire season. After only playing in nine games last season for the Spurs, Leonard has been growing frustrated with the organization.

That frustration has started to boil over, and it looks like Leonard wants out of San Antonio.

Leonard has been one of the best two-way players in the NBA for the past few years, and has been nothing short of amazing for the franchise. The friction between Leonard and the team started when the team doctors misdiagnosed his original injury.

Now the question is what will the team do with him? He is slated to be a free agent in 2019 which puts the Spurs in a bind. Do they trade him and get something for him or do they just let him walk in free agency after getting one more campaign from him? Could he chaange his mind in that timeframe? The Spurs have already offered him a $212 million contract to get him to stay, but he didn’t take it.

The team has also made it pretty clear that they don’t plan to trade the former NBA Defensive Player of the Year. Who knows if this will change their tune, but he has already said that the Los Angeles Lakers are one of the teams he prefers to go to if the Spurs trade him.

Leonard doesn’t have a no-trade clause so if the Spurs traded him they could send him anywhere they wanted. There are more than a few teams that can put together a trade package for him. It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out.
