Why do you need another DFS MLB site? Because DRAFT combines the excitement of a season-long draft into one set of games!

Welcome to today’s edition of MLB Top DRAFT Picks from FantasyCPR. The DRAFT app can be downloaded to your mobile device through your app store, or you can access their desktop site here.

I play quite a bit on DRAFT, and have always been a big fan of the snake draft format. On DRAFT, you roster one starting pitcher, two infielders, and two outfielders. They offer head-to-head, 3-man, 6-man and 10-man drafts that start upon filling. Also, they have a tournament format, where one contest will span a few days. The further you advance, the more you win. I play mostly the six-man contests for cash games, which payout to the top two spots.

More from DFS

My goal here will be to give you my strategy for drafting today on DRAFT, followed by my top 30 overall rankings. Strategy of course changes day by day, depending on what type of slate we are working with. I always start with my pitcher, as everything else revolves around that. After having completed my rankings for today and done a few six-man drafts, here is how I am attacking this slate.

DRAFT – DFS Strategy

Today we are working with a full fifteen game slate starting at 12:05 PM CT, with a lone early start between the Yankees and the Rays. I want to get this game and the full slate included in the rankings today, because Yankees ace Luis Severino is someone I will be looking to roster in this match-up.

We are are going to do things a little different today in the rankings. For full slates like this with staggering start times throughout the day., what I will do is go a little deeper, and rank 10 SP’s, 20 IF’s and 20 OF’s. That way when games start, if you decide to play the shorter slates throughout the day, your new top picks will filter in. Technically these could also work for 10-man drafts from the get-go with the full slate as well. With no bad weather possibilites to watch today, Let’s move on to the pitcher strategy for today.

DRAFT Pitcher Strategy:

Full slate, top aces in action, plenty of options. This looks a lot like yesterday, with the fact that we have a clear cut top two, followed by a middle tier of two pitchers with some great upside. I will skip the bottom tier this time out, as we can refer to the rankings for my last pick options. With that said, let’s break it down in nearly the same fashion as yesterday.

Top Tier:

Sitting alone at the top of the rankings, as he usually is just about every five days or so, is Nationals ace Max Scherzer. He continues to dominate, out to a 10-2 record already this season, with an ERA right at an even 2.00. The strikeouts keep coming in bunches and at a record pace, as he has already punched out 142 in just 94.2 innings. You really want your pitcher on DRAFT to get you at least 12 points in most circumstances. Any time the top arms are in action, and they have 20+ FP upside, they belong in the first round. Scherzer should have a fairly easy go at the light hitting Blue Jays today, and he is my top overall pick.

Although Max is alone at the top in terms of clear-cut a #1 pick he is, Yankees ace Luis Severino is in action in that early game. I have drafted a bit more than normal to get him in some lineups. The Yankees are hosting the Rays this weekend, and the Rays are really struggling to put runs on the board. Severino has established himself as one of the best pitchers in baseball over the last year and half, and this is a fantastic match-up for the young right hander. Draft Severino in the first round with confidence.

Mid Tier:

We have a fairly solid couple of arms to be had around late second, early third round. One of them might get drafted too high, but the other could be fairly overlooked because of Friday’s outcome. First, Patrick Corbin will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing outing last time on the hill at home against the Pirates. He is getting drafted a little too early for my liking, as it looks to me regression is in effect. One might look at this match-up against the Mets and jump all over it, I will pass today.

On the other hand, slightly being overlooked a bit today and also in a favorable spot on paper is Indians right hander Carlos Carrasco. For some reason, the Twins hit ace Corey Kluber last night, and Kluber failed to have that dominant game most (including me) expected. I look for the Indians to wake up a bit today, and rally behind Carrasco to back in the win column. This Indians team is so much better than this Twins team right now. Carrasco has that 15-20 FP upside we look for in round three or four after three or four pitchers have already been drafted.

Final Thoughts:

To sum up the pitcher strategy, I am all for focusing on Scherzer and Severino with my top pick today. I will likely watch Corbin go by, and look for Carrasco after that if I miss the top two. Should I miss them all, my fallbacks at the moment are Carlos Martinez and Sean Newcomb.

DRAFT MLB Hitter Strategy:

Top MLB DFS Plays:

Well yesterday we had Paul Goldschmidt homer again, as he remains on a tear. Facing Mets lefty Steven Matz today, Goldy is high on my radar. I had a ton of him last night, and so far a fair amount today. If I miss on Scherzer and Severino, this is one of the first places I am looking. There are so many great spots today in addition to this one, but this might be my top play.

We have the usual suspects again going in the first round such as outfielders Mike Trout, Aaron Judge, and Bryce Harper. The projections on Mookie Betts and JD Martinez remain low, although not like yesterday low. This mini-stack can usually be had at the first wrap around today, and I love this spot for the right handed duo against Mariners lefty Wade LeBlanc. Give me all the JD and Mookie again today.

Top MLB DFS Stacks:

Somewhat lost in the mix with all of these fantastic options is the Rockies, who will face another lefty tomorrow in Texas. Mike Minor will be on the hill, so I am also grabbing plenty of Nolan Arenado and Trevor Story. This mini-stack put up 54 FP’s combined yesterday, and led me to some green.

If you want a hit or miss stack that you can grab late if you get a top pitcher early, consider the Astros right handers. Carlos Correa and Jose Altuve are producing, but the one cold bat in the bunch in George Springer, has some decent BvP in a small sample size versus Royals lefty Danny Duffy. Springer is 3-for-9 in their match-ups with two home runs. Any combo of two of these three or even all three could have huge games here.

Top MLB DFS One-Off’s

Before we move on to our rankings, there are at least a couple of other superstars in prime position to shine tonight. Mike Trout continues to rake. He now has 10 hits in the last four games with two home runs, after a 3-for-3 performance last night. He will face A’s lefty Sean Manaea, who he is 6-for-14 with three home runs in his career against.

The other individual target I have my eyes on is Manny Machado. The Orioles will face veteran Wei-Yin Chen, who has been giving it up to right handed bats this year. I look for Machado to break his mini slump here, and take Chen deep early.
