The New York Mets are absolutely terrible, and they are reportedly willing to blow the entire roster up to fix the situation, including a few star pitchers.

It’s hard to believe, but the Mets were the best team in baseball through the early stages of April. new York was riding high at 11-1 with the top record in the sport, only to be an atrocity since. At 30-38 entering Monday night, the Mets are well out of playoff contention and have ot start thinking about the trade deadline on July 31.

In that vein, reports are coming out from Ken Rosenthal and others that New York is willing to trade anybody on the roster. While that doesn’t mean all 25 guys are going out the oor, it does mean that general manager Sandy Alderson is willing to ahve a conversation about anybody, including Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard.

Syndergaard is currently on the disabled list, so his value is lower than it would normally be. Still, he’s a 25-year-old ace who has three more seasons of team control before hitting free agency. Any team wanting Syndergaard would likely have to give up a mint to land him, but perhaps that a price worth paying for such a talent.

As for deGrom, he has two years left of team control and is already 29 years old. Still, this is one of the best pitchers in the sport, as shown by his minuscule 1.55 ERA this season,. If New york was any good, deGrom would be the easy choice for the NL Cy Young Award. Over his career, deGrom has posted a 49-34 with a 2.81 ERA.

Beyond the two starters, New York doesn’t have many pieces that would entice a contender. Asdrubal Cabrera is interesting with his solid campaign of 12 home runs and 16 doubles, and his contract expires after the season. A team trading for him would be on the hook for approximately $4 million.

New York would love to unload the oft-injured Yoenis Cespedes and the under-performing Jay Bruce, but neither of those things are happening unless the Mets eat large portions of the contracts. Cespedes is due $58.5 million over the next two seasons while Bruce earns $28 million over the same period.
