Yahoo DFS MLB Studs and Value: 6/18
Yahoo DFS – MLB Picks for June 18
High End Pitcher
Gerrit Cole $58
Tonight Yahoo DFS slate features three elite starting pitcher, but I land on Cole by process of elimination. Jacob deGrom is facing a Rockies’ lineup that struggles against right-handed pitching, but the extreme hitting conditions of Coors Field keep me off of him. Trevor Bauer enters his start in great form against the White Sox, which is a high upside spot, but the weather report currently calls for a 70% chance of thunderstorms. Unless the weather report improves, Bauer is avoidable. This leaves us with Cole, who is the largest favorite on the slate at -300. He is extremely safe even with the high price tag. He scored at least 16 fantasy points in every outing this year and scored at least 24 points in all but two starts. After a strong start to the season, the Rays offense is 25th in baseball with an 84 wRC+ over the last 30 days. Most of their early success was driven by luck on batted balls with a .311 BABIP for the year.

Value Pitcher
Andrew Suarez $28
The 3.1 implied runs for the Marlins is the second lowest expected output of the night. While Suarez is far from an elite pitcher, the Marlins offense also struggles to hit lefties with an 83 wRC+ for the season. AT&T Park is extremely favorable for pitchers, which is leading to favorable splits for Suarez. His home ERA is 3.55, while on the road he sports a 6.18 ERA. He averages 18.25 Yahoo points when pitching at home. This is a classic case of a movable object going up against a stoppable force. Something has to give and Vegas appears to side heavily with the Suarez side of the game.
Home Run Pick
Joey Gallo $19
Gallo rarely puts balls in play. His outcomes generally boil down to a walk, strikeout or home run. The wind is blowing out tonight in Kansas City and Gallo faces an extreme fly ball pitcher in Ian Kennedy. Kennedy holds a minuscule 30% ground ball rate, but struggles to keep the ball in the yard with a 12.6% HR/FB rate. Gallo probably only has to make contact once tonight to produce a long ball.
Value Bat
Wilmer Flores $11
Make no mistake, the Mets do not hit lefties at all. However, historically Flores hits southpaws extremely well. For his career, Flores has a 115 wRC+ against left-handed pitching. Tyler Anderson’s numbers appear good against right-handed bats this year, but it’s notably that is not the case for the rest of his career. Anderson allows a .335 wOBA to righties for his career compared to .316 to lefties. When factoring in the park, Flores is in a good spot to do damage tonight.
Offense to Consider Stacking
