MLB Power Rankings: Astros look unstoppable, Dodgers roar back to life
25. Cincinnati Reds
The Reds have actually been solid recently. They’ve won 4 of their last 6 and are 5-5 in their last 10 games. They’ve gotten pleasant surprises from Scooter Gennett and Eugenio Suarez. So, despite their poor record which has been heavily influenced by a miserable start to the season, the Reds are right where they should be.
24. Miami Marlins
The Marlins did a good job picking on under performing teams over the last week. They won series against the Giants and Orioles, as their young talent is starting to figure everything out. Perhaps Derek Jeter’s plan to let the youth grow this year is actually working?
23. Minnesota Twins
The Twins have been disappointing this year. There really isn’t another way to look at it. Last week showed their potential as they won a series with the Indians, but showed what they’ve been this year as they lost a series to the Tigers. Now, they’ve got to focus on fixing Miguel Sano’s bat for next year’s push.
22. Colorado Rockies
I swear the Rockies led the NL West recently. I promise you that it was the same team that has lost 8 of their last 10. They need to get things turned around fast as the Dodgers are streaking towards the top of their division. Maybe a series at home against the struggling Mets will help them get going.
21. Tampa Bay Rays
The Rays last week swept the red hot Blue Jays, before having more of their hopes crushed by the Yankees in a series where they only salvaged 1 of the 4 games. They’ve had a pleasant surprise in Blake Snell but their unique starting pitching strategy hasn’t been able to win them enough games to be truly competitive. They should look to sell pieces that other teams are interested, such as Adeiny Hechavarria.
