NBA Free Agency 2018: 5 potential destinations for Derrick Favors

3. San Antonio Spurs

So much could be in flux with San Antonio (or maybe nothing at all really). The cap space is just barely there. Favors’ positions are also manned by LaMarcus Aldridge and Marc Gasol. Neither of those bodies is exactly young either, and neither is probably around for what’s left of the long haul. If they do stay, Favors could play the role (or some variation of it) that David West played a few years ago in San Antonio. The real question would be could Favors play alongside Aldridge, because he could definitely play along Gasol in large part due to Gasol’s passing.

Rudy Gay recently opted out, so San Antonio continues to hold more flexibility financially than it once did. The real questions, though, are in regards to the franchise’s stability over the long haul. The Kawhi Leonard saga hasn’t necessarily leveled the building, but it has allowed for skepticism of the roster and projections about Gregg Popovich’s tenure to fill the airwaves. Favors seems like a player looking for stability. Is San Antonio still that place?
