MLB DFS Picks – Standouts: June 22nd

Tonight’s MLB DFS Picks slate features 14 games, with Colorado (6.8), Cleveland (5.7), Houston (5.5), Boston (4.9), and Atlanta (4.7), holding the best projected team totals. Without the need to spend up on pitchers tonight, finding optimal matchups should be stressed more than finding value. We’ll be aiming to highlight MLB DFS picks from the perspective of batted ball data, batter splits, line movement, and stolen base upside.

MLB DFS Picks: Batted Ball Stats

Robinson Chirinos – DK $2900, FD $2400

If you’re looking for a cheap batter that may be due for positive regression, consider Robinson Chirinos. Chirinos is one of the few catchers that offers home run upside, and he’s been hitting the ball much better of late. In last 15 days, his batted ball distance is up 25 feet, his exit velocity is up 5 MPH, and his hard hit percentage is up 23%, over his yearly average.

Batter Splits

Joey Gallo – DK $3900, FD $3200

Texas will be on the road in Minnesota tonight, but they’ve already seen some early line movement their way. The Twins opened as -130 favorite, but the have dropped to where they currently sit, at -107. Joey Gallo could stand to benefit from this movement, as he’ll draw a good a matchup against the righty, Fernando Romero. Gallo is much better against right-handed pitching, with a .365 wOBA split (.061 better than when facing a lefty) and a .321 ISO split (.115 better than when facing a lefty).

Line Movement

Jon Gray – DK $7700, FD $6800

Colorado will host the visiting Miami Marlins tonight, in a game in which Colorado opened as -190 favorites. Since opening, the line has ballooned out to -235. In addition to the movement on the side, the total has also dropped. The total opened at 11.5 runs, but now sits a half of a run lower, at 11 runs. This movement should be a positive sign for pitcher, Jon Gray. Gray is more of a bargain on DraftKings, but will be playable on both sites. While he’s struggled to keep his ERA down of late, his strikeout upside has allowed him to surpass value in his last two starts. Gray currently holds a K/9 of 10.396. Miami is more susceptible to strikeouts from right-handed pitchers, and Gray could make for an interesting, high upside, play tonight.

Stolen Base Upside

Trea Turner – DK $4600, FD $3700

Trea Turner will have an attractive matchup on the base paths tonight, as he’ll face the righty Zach Eflin. Eflin has allowed four stolen bases over the course of 44.2 innings this year. Turner is currently tied for 2nd in the league with 20 stolen bases this season. If the rain holds off, Turner will be a viable option at shortstop tonight.

Starling Marte – DK $4200, $3200

Starling Marte is another base runner who may be set up for success tonight. While it’s not as enticing, he should benefit from facing Patrick Corbin. Even though Corbin is a lefty, he has surrendered eight stolen bases this season, over the course of 93 innings. Marte currently has the 13th most stolen bases this year, with 13.
