Forward Filip Zadina surprisingly slipped to sixth in the 2018 NHL Draft. My sources let me know why he fell out of the top five.

Sources told us all that Filip Zadina would be a top-five, possibly a top-three, pick in the 2018 NHL Draft.

Sources were wrong.

Somehow, Zadina fell to No. 2, landing right in the lap of the Detroit Red Wings. Guess the Hockey Gods figured two years out of the playoffs was enough suffering for Hockeytown. Why did Zadina fall out of the top five? Here’s what my official sources are saying.

He isn’t a center. Teams love them some centers. Or “centres,” as they say in Canada. Playing center is more than just taking face-offs. It’s being responsible in your own end and being the first guy to hug a teammate when he scores. Because Montreal and Phoenix have done a poor job acquiring centers over the years, they both felt the need to take one in the draft. It’s not like Montreal just traded a “centre” or Phoenix just acquired one or anything. The centers they took on Friday may not help either team next season, but Zadina wasn’t going to help them either. At least, not at center.

Teams were scared by his name. The only great player with the name Filip is Filip Forsberg. Filip Kuba was alright, but he wasn’t a center. Also, his last name is too close to Sardine.

He has too much confidence. Montreal hates players who don’t fall in line. They traded P.K. Subban because he overcelebrated a couple of times. Zadina told Montreal that if they take didn’t him, he was going to fill their net. They didn’t take him. Neither did Ottawa. Neither did Phoenix. Teams like humble kids who give generic answers. Zadina doesn’t have time for that. Now, he’s going to fill multiple nets.

He had 82 points in 57 games. Dude couldn’t even crack 100 points. Teams want the next Connor McDavid. Not the next Taylor Hall.

He hung around Gary Bettman a little too much. That’s not good for anyone’s reputation.

I can’t explain Phoenix. Not only did they pass on the third best player in the draft, but they took a player they could have gotten outside of the lottery. But it’s easy to explain Montreal and Ottawa. They are Montreal and Ottawa. Name a good decision these teams have made in the last 365 days. Don’t worry, I’ll wait.
