England beat Panama 6-1 in the World Cup on Sunday, June 24. Here are all the highlights from the match.

Harry Kane scored a hat-trick as England thrashed Panama on Sunday to draw level on points, goal difference and goals scored with Belgium at the top of Group G, with the two sides to face off on Thursday.

Gareth Southgate’s side barely had to break a sweat as they racked up five goals in the first half. John Stones opened the scoring with a header from another excellent Kieran Trippier delivery at this World Cup.

That was followed by a penalty from Kane for a foul on Jesse Lingard and the best goal of the seven scored, Lingard curling into the top corner after a nice exchange of passes with Raheem Sterling.

Stones became England’s second top scorer with his second goal of the day, heading in from close range after a well-worked free-kick routine generated a header for Sterling, well saved by the Panama keeper. Kane concluded the first-half scoring with another penalty.

After Belgium’s dominant win against Tunisia on Saturday, the second half became all about whether England would attempt to increase their goal difference to top the group. When Kane got another in the 62nd minute, it seemed they would, but at that point Southgate’s side dropped off.

There was still time for a goal for Panama, their first ever at World Cup, and an excellent finish by Felipe Baloy greeted with wild celebrations by the Panama fans, despite knowing their team had been eliminated from the tournament.

With the score ending 6-1, attention now turns to England’s match with Belgium. If the match ends in a draw, the tiebreaker will be fair play. England currently have one fewer yellow card than Belgium, so would end top.
