Fantasy Football Dynasty League Rookie Rankings

Last week I opened up my dynasty league’s rookie draft to the readers. The results of the draft can be found here. Fantasy Football Dynasty League: 2018 Rookie Rankings provides the rankings that I used in preparation for my dynasty league’s rookie draft. I have also added a quick scouting report to each of the top 12 prospects. Hope this helps you take home the trophy.

Dynasty League Rookie Rankings PPR

  1. Saquon Barkley, RB NYG – 6’0 233lbs with 4.4 speed, a 41inch vertical, and absurd production in college. If you got the 1st pick you obviously need this guy!
  2. Ronald Jones, RB TBB – For those worried about his combine 40 (4.65), he pulled his hamstring on that run. RJ2 is a track star who is probably closer to the 4.4’s. If you don’t believe me, then just watch some of his game film. He has the explosiveness and elusiveness that reminds me of Alvin Kamara. His ceiling is LeSean McCoy, what I see as a realistic goal. Potentially the best part about drafting RJ2 is that he is practically already at the top of Tampa Bay’s depth chart.
  3. Sony Michel, RB NEP – Not quite as twitchy as RJ2, but an excellent athlete with great burst and a solid frame (5’11 214). Michel is a smart kid with all the intangibles, but Belichick’s RBBC mentality scares me.
  4. Derrius Guice, RB WAS – 4.49 40 with a 224lb frame. Guice may be aloof, but his college numbers don’t lie. Guice averaged 7.6 yards per attempt despite being banged up most of the year. This guy is a ferocious down-hill runner that will make an immediate impact for Washington, but he is a 2-down back at best with Chris Thompson and Samaje Perine currently ahead of him on the depth chart.
  5. Rashaad Penny, RB SEA – I lived on the West Coast for a month during college football season and I absolutely loved watching this guy. He torched opposing competition, but who wouldn’t torch UNLV and the rest of the Mountain West. He reminds me of Matt Forte as a runner (upright, fast and without a clear burst), but without the pass-catching abilities. Seattle’s O-line is hideous right now. Penny will need to develop into a top fantasy option, because I don’t see anything special for this year.
  6. Calvin Ridley, WR ATL – Looking purely at Ridley’s combine numbers, he is Amari Cooper with a tad less athletic ability (Cooper: 4.42, 33”, 120”, 6.71. 3.98 vs Ridley: 4.43, 31”, 110”, 6.88, 4.41). Cooper also had 20lbs on Ridley coming out. Ridley needs to pack on mass and improve his hands if he wants to become a top WR, both of which will take time. Julio taking Ridley under his wing could work wonders for Ridley’s development.
  7. Nick Chubb, RB CLE – As a freak athlete, Chubb is not much different from Saquon Barkley. If you don’t believe me, then check out this Youtube video. The only question is his medicals. If his knee holds up, then he has the potential to be a 3 down back in this league. Along with durability concerns, Chubb enters Cleveland behind Carlos Hyde and Duke Johnson.
  8. Royce Freeman, RB DEN – A 6’ 230lb man should not be that agile on his feet. At the combine, Freeman ranked in the top 4 among running backs in the 3 cone drill, the 20 yard shuttle, and the 60 yard shuttle. His aggressive style of running may not suit him for a long career in the NFL, but I think he can be a day-1 starter in Denver.
  9. DJ Moore, WR CAR – An explosive athlete (4.42 40yard dash and a 39.5inch vertical) with good hands. However, he needs to improve on his route running abilities. Carolina is a good situation for Moore due to the lack of talent around him, but Cam Newton will stunt his growth.
  10. Christian Kirk, WR ARI – Kirk has all the intangibles that you want. He is a good kid, he has great footwork, he is built like a running back, and he is a solid athlete. I loved that he went to Arizona, the slot receiver can learn from the best (Larry Fitzgerald) back in his home state.
  11. Anthony Miller, WR CHI – Miller and Kirk are cut from the same cloth. Hard workers who do everything right and will thrive in this league. The only reason I ranked Kirk above Miller (who is a slightly better athlete) is because Miller has injury issues coming into his first NFL season.
  12. Kerryon Johnson, RB DET – Kerryon was an excellent college running back at Auburn. He is an explosive athlete, and proved to be capable of being a tough 3 down back in college. My concern is that he will be plagued by lower body injuries throughout his career, due to his basketball-type profile. I have a fear that Kerryon’s career will mirror that of Ameer Abdullah’s.
