5 bold predictions for the New York Jets in 2018
2. Terrelle Pryor will lead the team in receiving yards
Not man players have had the sort of strange career Pryor has. He entered the league as a quarterback before finally moving to wide receiver permanently. In his three seasons as a full-time wideout he’s posted one 1,000 yard campaign and two entirely forgettable seasons.
The Jets signed Pryor to a one-year deal this summer and both he and the team are hoping he can reestablish his value as a starting wide receiver. Most people don’t expect him to emerge as a starter for the offense.
Those people are forgetting the fact that Pryor has one advantage over the rest of the Jets’ receiving corps. He’s simply much bigger than most of the other guys in his position group. Pryor is a legitimate 6-foot-4 and weighs over 225 pounds. That means he has a very large catch radius.
If, as expected, the Jets ultimately go with Sam Darnold as their starting quarterback, they’re going to want to give him a safety blanket at wide receiver. Pryor’s size makes him the obvious choice. It may seem a bit counterintuitive, but frequently rookie quarterbacks find making deep, outside throws easier than working the ball over the middle of the field. Pryor is the ideal to receiver to run deep fades for Darnold.
Pryor may not post a ton of catches for the Jets, but he’s going to find success down the field. It’s definitely a bold prediction, but don’t be surprised if he emerges as Darnold’s top target in 2018. If he does, he’ll lead the Jets in receiving yards.
