Despite playing only half the season last year, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is the favorite to win the NFL MVP in 2018.

The NFL season is more than two months away, but the gambling on it has already begun. According to Vegas, Aaron Rodgers is the favorite to become the NFL MVP, edging out fellow stars Tom Brady (who won the award in 2017) and Carson Wentz, who might have won a year ago before blowing out his knee.

Rodgers over Brady makes sense on a few levels. For starters, Brady is going to turn 41 years old on Aug. 3, and while he remains a robot rather than a human, Father Time is undefeated. Additionally, Rob Gronkowski is great but a significant injury risk, while Julian Edelman is suspended for the first four games of the season due to a PED violation. Factor in the offseason losses of Danny Amendola, Dion Lewis, Nate Solder and Brandin Cooks, and Brady could have a tough time repeating.

Of all the longshot options on the board, Deshaun Watson might be themes intriguing bet at 20-1. Watson was brilliant before being injured as a rookie, throwing for 19 touchdowns in only seven games. He also has DeAndre Hopkins on the outside opposite Will Fuller V, with Lamar Miller in the backfield. The only issue here is the offensive line, which is, frankly, offensive.

The last piece of advice here for all you gamblers … don’t go with Jimmy Garoppolo. It’s a sucker’s bet. Garoppolo might end up being great, but he’s currently surrounded by Jerick McKinnon, Marquise Goodwin, Pierre Garcon and George Kittle. Give it time before placing money on Garoppolo to win the MVP.
