Why do you need another DFS site? Because DRAFT combines the excitement of a season-long draft into one set of games!

Welcome to the first edition of DRAFT DFS Golf rankings from FantasyCPR, covering the US Open. The DRAFT app can be downloaded to your mobile device through your app store, or you can access their desktop site here.

I play quite a bit on DRAFT, and have always been a big fan of the snake draft format. On DRAFT, for PGA, you simply roster five golfers. They offer head-to-head, 3-man, 6-man and 8-man drafts that start upon filling. In the DRAFT lobby, you will find me in the six-man and eight-man contests, which payout to the top two spots.

My goal here will be to give you my targets in tiers, based upon their DRAFT projections. Followed by that, will be my top 40 overall rankings. The strategy of course here, is that 40 golfers will be drafted for 8-man contests, and these rankings will have you covered. After having completed my rankings for this week, and having completed a few 8-man drafts, let’s talk about the course for a second before we move on to the targets.

About the Event:

Starting Thursday, June 28th at 7:00 AM EDT, the Quicken Loans National will be underway at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm, in Potomac, MD just outside of Washington DC. The course will play at Par 70, and measures roughly 7,140 Yards. The PGA tour returned to TPC Potomac just last year, in what was the inaugural Quicken Loans National event. Prior to that, the tour had not held an event at this venue since 2006. This is a light week for the top names in golf however, as many have opted not to play this week. In fact, expect to see plenty of Rickie Fowler and Tiger Woods on your TV screens, because they will be the only names casual fans will recognize.

Event History:

So we established early that there isn’t much history here for this event at this course, as there is just one year to go off of. This event was previously held in the area at either Congressional Country Club mostly, and once at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in 2015. Troy Merritt carded an event record -18 in that one, and beat runner-up Rickie Fowler by three strokes.

We mentioned Woods briefly, and he his actually in a situation where I have some faith here. This field is rather weak, so Woods should be able to focus on his game, and not have to worry about the scoreboard. I am actually thinking Woods bounces back this week, and at the very least makes the cut. Woods won this event in 2009 and 2012, both times at Congressional Country Club.

Last year, TPC Potomac proved difficult, as Kyle Stanley won a playoff against Charles Howell III at just -7. Both return this year, and both are in exceptional form, making them top targets this week. Fowler tied for third with Martin Laird, who is also in the field again, and could be a sneaky pick. Another top target Marc Leishman, tied for fifth, with a couple of other players I expect to have a chance in Sung Kang and David Lingmerth. Speaking of targets, let’s move ahead to see who I am drafting this week!

DFS Golf High Projected Targets: (Players with DRAFT Projections of 60-80)

Rickie Fowler – (78.0)

Fowler is the heavy favorite this weekend, and you will be hard pressed to see a draft where he doesn’t go #1 overall this week. He is easily the most talented overall player in the field at this point in time, and carries the highest projection by almost a full eight points. He has finished top 20 or better in his last three events, which included an up and down US Open to say the least. Fowler made the cut at +2, then returned for day three and fired an abysmal +14. If he hadn’t bounced back like he did in the final round at -5 to just get in the top 20, he would likely be a hard sell this week. I personally think he finishes top ten and shouldn’t be faded, but I don’t think he wins. (Yes I remember I said that about Bubba Watson last weekend)

Kyle Stanley – (63.6)

Last years champ is back and seems to have a decent chance at a repeat in this smaller, non star-studded field. He struggled at the US Open like many, but bounced back well at the Travelers Championship last weekend. He finished tied for 15th, while shooting all four rounds under par. Stanley is consistent, and is good form. It wasn’t too long ago he tied Byeong-Hun An for 2nd place at The Memorial. He is currently going anywhere from second to sixth in the first round.

Stewart Cink – (60.4)

Never ever thought I would make Cink a priority in my DFS lineups, and one of my top targets on DRAFT, but this veteran is just playing way too well as of late to ignore. DRAFT is clearly high on him as well with his 60+ point projection, and I actually wish it was a little lower so I could get him later. He fired a 62 in the final round of the Travelers Championship last week and ended up tied for second. That gave him back-to-back top fives. There is no one hotter than Cink in this field, and he is my pick to stay the course, and pull off the win this week. He is a legit late first round pick this week.

DFS Golf Mid Projected Targets: (Players with DRAFT Projections of 50-60)

J.B. Holmes – (59.5)

Did someone say back-to-back top fives? Yup, Cink has company on that one. I guess if anyone in this field is hotter than Cink it would be right here with Holmes. While this isn’t the typical grab the bombers off the tee course, Holmes’ game has been well rounded of late, and he is much more than a bomber. Holmes tied Cink for 2nd last week at the Travelers at -14, and grabbed a solo third place two weeks prior at the St. Jude Classic. Add a T-13 prior to that at the Memorial and it is safe to say Holmes is also in great form, and could contend this week. He can be had mid-second to early third round.

Byeong-Hun An – (57.8)

The 26-year-old South Korean will be back in action this week, having taken last weekend off after the challenges of the US Open. An should be right in the thick of things this weekend, as he tries to regain the form he had at the Memorial. He battled to make a playoff, but ended up finishing tied for second with Stanley, as red hot Bryson DeChambeau was victorious. An is 56th in the world rankings at the moment, and this field should be motivation for the chance to move up a few spots. He is slotting in around round three.

Bill Haas – (55.8)

Haas’ recent form is nothing to write home about. He did finish a respectable T-36 at the US Open, but failed to make the cut at last week’s Travelers Championship. Something about this area of the Country, and these courses around DC seem to get Haas going though. His last few years in this event have been pretty incredible, albeit most of it was played on a different golf course. He tied for 13th here at this course last year, and had a third and a fourth place finish in 2015 and 2016 respectively. On top of that, he won it back in 2013. He is a pretty good sleeper due to his recent form, and makes for a great fourth round pick if you can get him there.

DFS Golf Low Projected Targets: (Players with DRAFT Projections of 25-50)

Beau Hossler – (37.4)

Really low projection, not sneaky at all. Hossler is now a recognizable name if you have watched any golf over the last month or so. The 23-year-old consistently makes cuts, and made quite the run at the Travelers last weekend, finishing in that four-way tie for second. He looked incredible at times, and that could translate into another solid week against a lackluster field. Like I said, he is no secret though, and you will want to grab him in the second round.

Joaquin Niemann – (33.9)

You may have never heard of Niemann if you are a novice, but get to know this name, and be ready to roster him in DFS for many years to come. The 19-year-old Chilean product carried the #1 World Amateur Golf Ranking from May of 2017 until April of this year when he turned pro. Missing cuts at both majors, Niemann still has a long way to go, but prior to the US Open, he burst on the scene with back-to-back top tens at the Fort Worth Invitational and the Memorial. I think he makes some noise in this field, and is also garnering a second round pick, as the DFS golf savants are all over him.

Si Woo Kim – (44.4)

Kim is a target of mine that I hope slips to the fourth round for me, but he has been getting some third round respect. Another South Korean product like An, Kim is just 22-years-old. He became the youngest player to win the Players Championship, when he won it last year at the age of 21. He was decent at the Masters this year tying for 24th, and his +9 at the US Open left him just outside of the cut line. He bounced back at the Travelers last weekend, finishing tied for 26th. He should be a safe bet to make the cut here in this field. And makes for a great fourth round pick if you can get him there.
