1. Oklahoma City Thunder

The Oklahoma City Thunder have an excellent center already locked up in Steven Adams, but aside from him are relatively light on centers. Patrick Patterson and Jerami Grant both played some minutes at the five, but neither of them have the pure bulk that Monroe does.

The Thunder are entirely out of money to spend already, and NBA free agency hasn’t even started yet. Oklahoma City has nearly $140 million already committed to players thanks to assembling their so-called super team last summer. If Monroe is dead-set on a big deal he isn’t finding it in OKC.

Oklahoma City does have the taxpayer mid-level exception and minimum contracts to spend, and Monroe did agree to a deal worth about as much as that exception last year when he joined the Boston Celtics. There’s always more money available during the summer than there is in the middle of the season, and Monroe could have better options now.

Even if Carmelo Anthony has seen better days as a playmaker, the Thunder will be competitive. They don’t really have a choice considering Russell Westbrook‘s mega-contract. OKC could be another playoff team with a role for Greg Monroe this summer, even if that role includes coming off of the bench.
