DeAndre Jordan may finally get out of L.A. as the Mavericks are interested in the big man.

After an all-time NBA Twitter moment and one of the NBA’s craziest offseason stories back in 2015, it seemed as if DeAndre Jordan would never play for the Mavericks. Fast forward three years and here we are. Not only does Dallas want to sign Jordan, they’re willing to pay big bucks for the big man as well. Even though he’s seemingly wanted a move out of Los Angeles for years, he’s never found one. However, Dallas is now offering Jordan an escape route out of LA.

Jordan is set to decide on whether or not he opts into his Clippers contract in the near future. If he decides to opt-in, the two sides will work together to find the best trade option for Jordan. If not, he becomes a free agent and is eligible to sign wherever his heart desires. While the latter offers more freedom, opting in means Jordan is guaranteed his $24.1 million for next season, regardless of where he plays. Of course, there is always the possibility Jordan stays in Los Angeles, but that seems unlikely as the two sides have had enough of each other.

The Mavericks are waiting in the wing, hoping Jordan opts in. Therefore, they’d be able to trade for the big man and save some money for free agents. In addition, they’d have something to offer the Clippers in return for Jordan’s services. Many teams wouldn’t even consider bringing back a player who turned back on his word a few seasons ago. But, the Mavericks are desperate — as their 24-58 record shows. Jordan, 29, is having the best years of his career and can be a centerpiece for a struggling franchise.
