Will the New York Knicks be under new management in the near future?

The New York Knicks have been a joke for the last couple decades. Ever since the end of the Patrick Ewing era, they’ve basically been an irrelevant franchise when it comes to actually having a chance to win titles. Carmelo Anthony gave them star power and box office money, but at the end of the day this organization has been poorly run for a long time.

That all might be changing soon.

Knicks and New York Rangers owner James Dolan is apparently thinking about putting those two franchises in a different public company, and that would facilitate selling off both teams at some point according to a recent Crain’s report.

He appears to be more focused on his blues career and wants to put his energy into the entertainment field. Here is a brief excerpt from the article.

"‘Dolan is understood to be more interested in music and building cutting-edge entertainment venues than sports.“He wants to be more Elon Musk than George Steinbrenner,” an analyst told Crain’s in an article last month.’"

Although, all this should be taken with a grain of salt.  According to a statement from The Madison Square Garden Company: “There are no plans to sell the Knicks or the Rangers.”

The Knicks would still have an enormous hill to climb even with a new owner, but fans of the franchise are and should be elated about this. Madison Square Garden Company stock has spiked in the last couple days as a result, and anyone who buys the team would stand to make a lot of money if they run things with even moderate intelligence.

The Knicks will most certainly not have a lot to celebrate this offseason. LeBron James isn’t coming through that door, and it doesn’t appear that any other major free agent has thought of it either. But New Yorkers can keep the faith now that someday their franchise might get back to competing for championships.
