LeBron James thanks the city of Cleveland for the last four years, promises to return.

In case you didn’t hear, LeBron James is signing with the Los Angeles Lakers. The press release came from LeBron’s management team at Klutch Sports. James then took to Instagram to wish the city of Cleveland a fond farewell.

James shockingly returning to the Cleveland Cavaliers four years ago, leaving the Miami Heat after four straight Finals appearances. He went to four more Finals with Cleveland, bringing them home a championship in 2016. Pictured in the Instagram post is LeBron celebrating the title with the city of Cleveland at the championship parade.

It’s unknown whether not LeBron will make a bigger gesture towards Cleveland following this announcement. The last time he left his home, he did it on a nationally televised special. A Twitter announcement and Instagram post is a little more subdued compared to that.

It’s never a requirement for athlete’s to thank their former club when they leave, but it never hurts.

Then again, LeBron showed them plenty of love in this last four seasons. He not only returned to a team coming off four straight losing seasons, he left a team that was nearly guaranteed a trip to the Finals. He also gave the city their first major sports title since the Browns in 1964. He’s been plenty appreciative of his time in Cleveland these last four years.

Along with a victory parade photo, James posted mentions his I Promise School in Akron.

Yes, the man is opening an entire school for kids at risk of being left behind. If that isn’t a big enough “Thank You” to the city of Cleveland, I don’t know what is.
