The Houston Rockets were essentially two second halves away from an NBA Finals appearance. Now it looks like Chris Paul is ready to run it back in Houston.

The Houston Rockets had one of the best teams in the NBA last season, and were about as close as you can get to an NBA Finals appearance. After falling short in the Wester Conference Finals, Chris Paul became a free agent and now the questions start.

The Rockets are under new ownership, and everyone wondered whether that new ownership would actually give a 33-year old CP3 a max contract.

Luckily for Daryl Morey and the Houston Rockets it looks like Chris Paul is ready to give it another go in Houston. Another four goes at it if you want to get specific.

Chris Paul has agreed to sign a four-year $160 million dollar max contract. That means Paul is going to make $44 million in the final year of his deal. The Rockets are taking a huge gamble on giving him this kind of money. Plus they’re already paying James Harden more than $30 million for the next few years as well.

This gamble is in all likelihood worth it though. If you remember the Houston Rockets were literally a half away from advancing to the NBA Finals. Had Chris Paul not injured his hamstring in Game 5 the Rockets probably would have won one of the next two games.

The Rockets are investing in the now, and who knows it might pan out. They don’t have the financial assets to actively improve this team, but they can go out and try and bring back Trevor Ariza.

They’re also going to need to find a way to resign Clint Capela. So many things still need to happen for the Rockets before the season starts, but signing Chris Paul is a good start.
