Baltimore Orioles: Manny Machado

One of the biggest names in the 2019 free agency class for the MLB is Baltimore Orioles shortstop Manny Machado. The power hitting middle infielder has had a tremendous 2018 campaign, and with his contract expiring after this season, this is the time the Orioles can get the most for this very valuable asset.

The bottom line is, the Orioles are out of it, and the way they have played is pretty shocking considering their manager is Buck Showalter. They just look uninterested at the plate, and in the field, and they have buried themselves in an AL East race that is being dominated by the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees.

Machado is going to bring back a haul of assets, and if they play their cards right, it could be a franchise-changing deal. Later this month, Machado will turn 26, which is pretty incredible when you consider all he has accomplished in his MLB career already.

The Orioles really hold all the cards here, and if they do make Machado available, they will be contacted by pretty much every team in baseball. If they decide to hang on to him, which makes no sense, he will finish out his Orioles career on a last-place team, and then decide where he wants to go this offseason without the Orioles getting anything in return.

Baltimore is going to look very different next season, as you have to think this will be Showalter’s last season at the helm in the dugout. Machado is as good a young player as there is in baseball, and the Orioles need to strike while the iron is hot.
