As LeBron James looks to build a future contender with the Los Angeles Lakers, Chris Bosh wants to come out of retirement hoping to be a part of it.

LeBron James’ four-year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers marks the third time that he has changed teams. The first time, when he moved to the Miami Heat, he formed a formidable Big Three with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. While Wade eventually rejoined him during his second stint in Cleveland, a life-threatening injury has prevented Bosh from reuniting with LeBron.

But now that he has moved to Los Angeles, and Bosh is a year removed from retiring, he simply can’t pass up the chance to take the floor with the King again. Sean Deveney of Sporting News has reported that Bosh is “adamant” he’ll return to the NBA, and that he will petition the league in order to play again.

Deveney also cited the numerous connections Bosh has to the Lakers organization. Not only does he know all about what it’s like to play with James, Rob Pelinka used to be his agent. He was also seen at the Lakers’ practice facility with Pelinka back in October, which sparked this whole conversation about a potential comeback.

Seeing Bosh back on the court, and alongside LeBron James, would be an amazing story, but it doesn’t exactly put the Lakers on the path to title contention. Even if he wanted to play, the NBA’s “fitness to play” clause has prevented Bosh from touching the floor since he developed his blood clotting issue.

While James’ signing triggered an avalanche of players joining him on the Lakers, they look more like a Klutch All-Star team rather than a title contending team:

Rob Perez also called it the “meme team”, though they’re still a few players short of reaching that goal:

There are certain players who have made a name for themselves just by being teammates with LeBron James — Mike Miller and James Jones followed him wherever he went. And while team chemistry is always an important element in building a future contender, we don’t know how effective Bosh, or any of these new signings, are going to be around him.

But that could all be rendered moot once the Lakers get Kawhi Leonard.
