Robert Woods is right about the Rams offense
The Los Angeles Rams averaged almost 30 ppg last season. Despite that success, Robert Woods is right when he says the unit can be better in 2018.
NFL defenses did not enjoy going up against the Los Angeles Rams offense last season. They may enjoy it even less in 2018. Sean McVay has even more offensive weapons to play with this season, and that could lead to a record-breaking offensive fireworks in L.A.
The ability for the group to improve isn’t lost on receiver Robert Woods. He’s dead on when he describes he and his offensive teammates as forming a “loaded” unit. The former Southern Cal star claims all the Rams offense needs to do is “fine tune” things this summer. That should cause opposing defenders nightmares.
Much of Woods’ optimism is a result of potential improvement from players who were on the team last season. Jared Goff is a prime candidate to continue his progression as an NFL quarterback. The third-year pro answered his ugly rookie season with a Pro Bowl-caliber sophomore campaign. If he can improve on his production of 3,804 passing yards last season, he could become one of the top signal-callers in the NFL.
Of course, Goff is blessed with one of the most dynamic group of receivers in football. The aforementioned Woods and Cooper Kupp will likely start on the outside. Both players are still on the upward trajectory of their careers. It’s safe to assume they can continue to grow alongside Goff in 2018.
The Rams didn’t sit still with their wide receiver group, though. They made the bold move to acquire Brandin Cooks this summer as well. He will provide Goff with a significant upgrade over Sammy Watkins in the slot. Cooks’ exceptional route-running talent combined with his quick twitch athleticism make him a nightmare to defend. The fact that he’ll have plenty of room to roam in the middle of the field could equal a career season for Cooks.
McVay is smart enough to know that his offense can’t become too dependent on the pass. Fortunately, he still has Todd Gurley to hand the ball off to 20-plus times per game. Gurley’s career also happens to be on the ascent. As long as he can stay healthy, he’s a solid bet to be a Pro Bowl running back for the Rams offense.

Lots of things can change over the course of an NFL season, but betting on the Rams offense to continue to improve is a prudent choice. There’s just too much young talent on that side of the ball to experience a scoring dip.
