Love it or hate it, the Los Angeles Lakers are back in the spotlight after agreeing to a deal with LeBron James.

Trolling the Los Angeles Lakers over the last five seasons was always a bittersweet endeavor. On the one hand, enjoying one of the NBA’s most prolific franchise’s worst run in their history was pretty nice for non-Lakers fans.

On the other, every joke was made with a quiet thought: this will not last forever. They will be back, eventually. The Lakers are bad now, but they will figure out a way to get back.

It’s happened. They may not be title contenders, hell they may not even finish as a top four seed, but the Los Angeles Lakers finally landed their big fish in LeBron James. With LeBron agreeing to a four-year deal (year four is a player option), Los Angeles is home to an undeniably important team once more.

Soon after LeBron made his decision, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Lance Stephenson, and JaVale McGee all elected to sign in Los Angeles as well. The entertainment value of watching all of these new additions mesh with Lonzo (and LaVar) Ball, Magic Johnson, and Luke Walton is going to be unparalleled.

For half of a decade, it was safe to laugh at Lakers fans when they spoke about getting every single star player in the purple and gold. Now that LeBron is there, those jokes don’t seem quite as funny. With Kawhi Leonard and who knows who else within Los Angeles’ grasp, these Lakers could end up posing a real threat to Golden State.

Either way, the Los Angeles Lakers are once again must-see TV with LeBron leading the way. Hopefully the rest of the NBA enjoyed a five-year break from the Lakers dominating the spotlight, because the Lake Show is back in a big way.
